The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is one of the largest private philanthropic organizations in the world and spends around $2 billion a year on Africa alone, largely to improve health and agriculture with access to vaccines and more productive seeds.
Recently the couple have been reacting to the covid-19 pandemic in their foundation blog. They state that since the pandemic they have spent over $1.7billion on medical research and supplies.
To date, our foundation has invested $1.75 billion in the fight against COVID-19. Most of that funding has gone toward producing and procuring crucial medical supplies. For example, we backed researchers developing new COVID-19 treatments including monoclonal antibodies, and we worked with partners to ensure that these drugs are formulated in a way that’s easy to transport and use in the poorest parts of the world so they benefit people everywhere.
Bill Gates and his wife, Melina Gates have warned about future pandemics in a post on their Foundation’s blog and added that "This pandemic is bad, but a future pandemic could be 10 times more serious.”
The couple said: “The unfortunate reality is that COVID-19 may not be the last pandemic.
"We do not know when the next one will arrive, or if it will be a flu, a coronavirus or some new disease that we have never seen before.
“But what we do know is that we cannot allow ourselves to be caught off guard again.
“The threat of the next pandemic will always be over our heads, unless the world takes steps to prevent it. "
Bill gate suggests that to prevent future pandemic the world must invest in Research and Development and develop entirely new capabilities that do not yet exist. In a youtube video Gates explains that "stopping the next pandemic will require spending tens of billions of dollars a year" and comments that the estimate of global expenditures for the COVID-19 pandemic is approximately 28 trillion dollars.
Since the couple made the statment in the blog twitter has exploded comments such as 'They’re literally telling us the play.'. please see below

I know that Gates is a profiteer but what's his game spending all those billions on waterless toilets for poor countries? I don't get how he's going to make money out of it.
