A Nigerian Man,Adedapo Adegbola Admits Killing Ex-British Girlfriend in Knife Attack

A Nigerian man based in the United Kingdom has admitted to murdering his former girlfriend and work colleague after fatally stabbing her at her home, a case that has drawn renewed attention to issues of domestic violence and relationship-related homicide.

Adedapo Adegbola, aged 40, pleaded guilty to murder at Nottingham Crown Court, bringing to an end a criminal trial arising from the killing of a young British woman in Nottingham. The court heard that the victim and the defendant had previously worked together and had also been involved in a personal relationship that had since ended.

The Fatal Incident

The murder took place in October 2025 at the victim’s home in the Mapperley area of Nottingham. Emergency services were called to the address after reports of a serious assault. When police and paramedics arrived, they found the woman suffering from severe stab wounds. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators later confirmed that the injuries were consistent with a sustained knife attack. The victim, who was in her early twenties, was described by family and friends as intelligent, compassionate, and academically accomplished, with aspirations of building a career in psychology.

Events After the Attack

Following the stabbing, Adegbola left the property rather than seeking medical help for the victim. Evidence presented during the investigation showed that he travelled through several towns across northern England in the hours after the killing. During this time, police believe he disposed of clothing and other items connected to the attack.

The following day, Adegbola returned to Nottingham and voluntarily presented himself at a police station, where he was arrested on suspicion of murder. He later declined to answer questions during police interviews.

Court Proceedings

At his appearance before Nottingham Crown Court, Adegbola formally pleaded guilty to murder, accepting responsibility for the killing. His plea meant that a full trial was no longer required, sparing the victim’s family from having to hear all the evidence presented in court.

The judge remanded him in custody pending sentencing, which is expected to take place at a later date. He faces a mandatory life sentence, with the court to determine the minimum number of years he must serve before becoming eligible for parole.

Police and Family Response

Senior investigating officers described the case as deeply distressing and emphasised that the guilty plea brought a measure of justice, though it could never undo the loss suffered by the victim’s family.

In statements released after the court hearing, the victim’s relatives paid tribute to her character, highlighting her kindness, determination, and the promising future she had ahead of her. They described her death as a devastating loss and called for greater awareness of the dangers posed by abusive and controlling relationships.

Wider Context

The case has reignited discussions around violence against women, particularly in the context of former intimate relationships. Advocacy groups continue to stress the importance of early intervention, support for those leaving relationships, and holding perpetrators accountable through the justice system.

As the court prepares to sentence Adegbola, the case stands as another reminder of the tragic consequences of relationship-related violence and the enduring impact such crimes have on families, communities, and society at large.
