The novel  Coronavirus has put the world at a standstill. Countries have closed their borders. Airports closed, and inter and intra travels are banned. Schools, shops and restaurants have shuts  their doors in many western countries, and people have been asked to stay at home.  One institution that is now shutting its doors and causing shock waves  around the world is the religious institutions.

According to Saudi state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA)  the kingdom has banned "Umrah" forresidents and citizens. The move according Saudi Press Agency was in line with the "precautionary measures taken by Saudi authorities to prevent the spread of the virus" in the Gulf state.

In Singapore, worshippers have been advised to use their own prayer mats and avoid shaking hands.

Churches are also closing their doors to worshippers. In the UK, the Church of England has suspended all services until further notice, saying it must become “a different sort of church in these coming months”. They have also suggested that weddings during the coronavirus outbreak should be limited to a maximum of five people, including the bride and groom.

In Canada, Churches have closed and masses suspended until May. The list goes on and on…..

In Africa most populous country, Nigeria, a country where Pastors claim to cure all sorts of illnesses have been ordered to close their churches in Lagos state . Nigeria’s Christian population is the largest in Africa and is projected to double by 2060. Lagos itself is home to some of the country’s most well-attended mega-churches with hundreds of branches that welcome millions in congregation every Sunday. In fact the Founder and leader of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet T.B Joshua, predicted the date the coronavirus pandemic will cease to exist in the world. In his words he said .

“Coronavirus, the fearful virus plaguing the world will end on 27th March 2020."

Earlier in the month he was heard also saying that the current rains in China will wipe out coronavirus and will end the widespread occurrences of the infectious disease. However, the virus still exists in large number around the world and still infecting people.

All religions are often viewed as sacred and above all illnesses . People tend to put their hope on religion and expect to be healed and cured of all illnesses.. However, all , if not nearly all have shut their doors to their followers  since the coronavirus pandemic  .. Thus begging the questions; –Is

religion really what it says it is or does. Do people really need religion? If religion cannot save people from illness as claimed in the bible or other religious books why do people still worship these imaginary and unseen  being ?  Why can't pastors who in the past have raised the dead, healed the blinds ,cure coronavirus or Is religion just another Mega scam disguise?  what is the role of religion if they have to shut their doors to their dedicated and "fee paying fellowers" ?..... Some may argue that religion heals anxiety and gives people hope. If it heals anxiety  then that defeats is relevance .Religions have killed more  people than any disaster worldwide
