Evidently, the entire human community is presently busy fighting a common enemy. Of course the Coronavirus pandemic is a common enemy to every human being. The virus seems to be on two missions, to kill as many human beings as possible and to destroy the economy of the world. Thus, there is a need for every human being to declare war against it. In a war, Soldiers deploy several methods to attack their enemies and try as much as possible to protect themselves from the enemies. In most cases, the only focus of a soldier in a war, is to defeat the enemy.
Arguably, the entire human community seems to be on a single mission at the moment, and this mission is to defeat the Coronavirus. In a view to defeating the deadly virus, world leaders have taken several measures.
It is believed that the Coronavirus cannot move on its own, it always requires the help of a human being to move from one location to another or to move from one human being to another human being hence, there is a need for a total lockdown. The rationale behind the total lockdown in almost every country in the world is that once human beings stop moving, the virus will stop spreading.
There is no doubt that with this model, we can actually contain the spread of the virus, and consequently defeat the deadly virus. However, we must be on the alert for another common enemy, population explosion.
Population explosion may simply be defined as a rapid increase in the number of human beings. It is believed that with 7.8 billion people currently living on the planet earth, the world is already overpopulated. Arguably, overpopulation has some advantages, however, it has several disadvantages which include increase in the rate of unemployment and underemployment, increase in crime rate, increase in poor standard of living, etc.
Presently, many human beings seem to be observing the stay home rule, billions of people, both married and unmarried are currently at home without going any where. Couples now spend more time together, some absentee fathers now spend more time with their wives and children, and in some instances, boyfriends and girlfriends now have more time for themselves.
There is no doubt that given the nature of the Coronavirus, the lockdown policy is the best model for tackling the spread of the virus, if strictly followed, we shall win this war in no time.
Nevertheless, instructing people to stay at home is not enough, there is a need for each leader to sensitize their citizens on the danger of over population or population explosion.
Responsible sexual intercourse should be preached to all and sundry, there should be sensitization on rape, there should be sensitization on unwanted pregnancy, and there should be consistent sensitization on the use of contraceptives and family planning.
Evidently, children are blessings from the God almighty, but they should not be carelessly invited into the world. If you are not ready to take full responsibilty of a child then do not invite such child into the world.
