AstraZeneca Withdraws Its COVID Vaccine Worldwide Due to Dangerous Side Effects

AstraZeneca has announced the global discontinuation of its COVID vaccine, following its own admission of a rare but severe side effect linked to the vaccine. The pharmaceutical company has halted its use within the EU by revoking its marketing rights effective immediately.
The decision to pull the vaccine, which was a collaboration with Oxford University, will also extend to other countries where it was previously approved, including the UK. Once celebrated as a milestone in British scientific achievement, the vaccine has been under severe criticism due to its association with very rare cases of Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome, a serious condition involving blood clots and low levels of blood platelets. This issue has been connected to over 80 fatalities in the UK alone and numerous severe injuries. Currently, AstraZeneca faces legal action from over 50 parties affected by these side effects.
Despite these challenges, AstraZeneca maintains that the vaccine's withdrawal is not tied to ongoing legal proceedings but rather due to economic factors. According to court filings, the production and distribution of the vaccine have ceased, with more recent vaccines designed to combat new variants taking precedence.
In a public statement, AstraZeneca expressed pride in the significant role its vaccine, Vaxzevria, played in addressing the global pandemic, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.
