A Single Mother Fight For Her Drug Addict Son

Raising up children in a successful and good way in this generation where children are exposed to advanced technology , it was not an easy task or responsibility for this single mother, Theresa. Theresa was a very hard working woman, with a zeal to fight for the well being of her children two children, a boy called Alex , and a girl called, Joy. Theresa was uneducated woman who got married to a business man by the name of Alex at the age of 21 years old. Theresa suffered unfaithfulness from her husband who would cheat on her with educated ladies, giving excuses that she was not his class. Despite the behaviour of her husband, Theresa maintained her marriage so that she could at least educate her children that they could have a better future. Unfortunately her husband's cheating got worse to the point of him staying days not sleeping in the house, and once he comes back, if she asks where he was, he could beat her. After 12 years in her marriage enduring mistreatment from her husband, he finally left with another woman, and she was left alone with the children, her first born son was now 11years old, and the her daughter was 5years old She had no where to start from, her children had to eat, rentals and school fees for her children was now her responsibility, she could cry day and night in the upsence of her children, but stood strong in their presence. Theresa found a job as a maid where she worked for a year and two months then ventured into a business of selling fruits, she did all she could that her children lacked nothing. Sadly, the time that Theresa was busy with her business, her son Alex was missing school, and he got himself involved with gangs, youths who abuse alcohol and drugs without her knowledge. This continued for a year, and one time as she was coming from her business place in a public bus, she heard people talking about a group of youths who were arrested for drug abuse and public disturbance. She didn't pay attention much, her thoughts were headed home. She reached home, found her daughter at a neighbour's house and her son was not home since morning, she asked his way about from her neighbour, and the response she got was shocking, her neighbour said, "Alex has not been going to school for some months now, he has been hanging around with these gangs boys who abuse drugs, and today he was arrested amongst them. " Tears just rolled down on her Theresa's chicks, "this can't be true, where did I go wrong!" she cried, and later on went to released her son from the police station. As they arrived home, she looked at her son and asked him when it all started. With tears in his eyes, Alex looked at his mother and said, "Queen," as he would call her, " I don't know what to say to u, I have failed you and my sister, I tried to stop but I failed to quit, this addiction is bigger than me, I am sorry Queen mother. " She looked at him and remembered the words he told her when he was 6years old, that he was going to become a president and make her live as a queen as she deserved it. "No!" Theresa shouted while looking at her son and holding his hands, you are my president and you will be, we will fight this addiction together and win, you are not alone my son, I am with you. Early morning she took all her servings and took her son to a rehabilitation centre, and got him admitted for treatment, she left no stone unturned to raise money for her son's treatment, she said other parents give up on their children who becomes drug addicts and hand them over to jail, but I will not give up on you. These words of Theresa gave her son strength to fight all the demons of withdrawal process and though it seemed difficult at the beginning, it was a success at the end. Alex finally gave up on drugs and went back to school, he later became a business man just like his father, but he built rehabilitation centres and became a president of rehabilitation counselling movement for drug addicts. A parent's strong will and belief in her children is strength to her children. Thank you for reading, hope it has blessed you and give you a heart not to give up on the youth who have become drug addicts, and hopefully help in building up many rehabilitation centres so that we can save the lives of youths out there.
