2022 BMW X5 Black Vermilion Edition is limited to 350 units in the U.S. Price starts at $83,295 and available from December, 2021.

In the United States, BMW is only selling 350 of these X5 Black Vermilion Edition vehicles, and the limited-edition package offers the luxury SUV a blacked-out look with bright red highlights. They'll start coming in September, according to the timetable.

The current-generation BMW X5 SUV is a fairly attractive vehicle. It has a good sculpted form and a well-appointed (though rather conservative) interior, and it pulls off the once-considered-big grilles nicely. Unfortunately, BMW isn't satisfied with that, and on Sunday, it unveiled the 2022 X5 Black Vermilion edition.

What's the deal with black vermillion? Isn't it a Marvel character from the fourth tier? No — or, maybe, yes? It doesn't matter since it's also a limited-edition X5 with frozen black paint, very dubious red grille slats, and somewhat less dubious red brake callipers. No, really, that's the entire point: black vehicle with red highlights.

Frozen Black Metallic paint is applied to each X5 Black Vermilion Edition. The adaptive LED headlights are darker to match the blacked-out appearance, and the kidney grilles feature red vertical slats. The Shadowline black trim, as well as more aggressive front and rear bumpers, are included on the M Sport package, which costs $5400 more. Orbit Grey 22-inch alloys and red M Sport brake callipers are standard on the limited-edition SUVs.

Only 350 examples of the X5 Black Vermilion will be delivered to the United States, each beginning at $83,295, including BMW's $995 delivery charge. To put things in perspective, the basic X5 xDrive40i costs $62,695, while the considerably more powerful xDrive50i costs $83,795.

So, for that price difference, what else do you get? To begin, you receive M Shadowline adaptive LED laser headlights, which are not available on the xDrive40i otherwise. An M Sport exhaust system and 22-inch orbit grey alloys are also included. Merino leather upholstery with red piping on the seats, glass controls for the gearshift and iDrive, and carbon trim are all standard on the inside. Aside than that, it's simply an X5 with a lot of options.

If you want to get your hands on one of these Black Vermilions, start pestering your dealer as soon as possible. Production in the United States is scheduled to commence in September or December 2021.
