It’s such an unexpected twist when a musician who is thrilling the audience on stage meets their death all of a sudden. This scenario has played out on many occasions and here are some of them.
Papa Wemba:
Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba, better known as Papa Wemba was a Congolese singer who played rumba, soukous and ndombolo. He earned the tag “King of Rumba Rock” and was known for songs like Emotion, Maria Valencia and Show Me The Way.
He slumped during a stage performance in Ivory Coast on 24 April 2016- and died afterwards.
Joana Sainz Garcia:
Joana Sainz Garcia was a singer and dancer from Madrid, Spain. In September 2019, when she was 31 years old, she met her death in a stage explosion.
Mike Scaccia:
Michael Ralph Scaccia, better known as Mike Scaccia was an American musician and guitarist who performed for well-known heavy metal and rock acts such as Rigor Mortis and Ministry and Revolting Cocks. Some of his songs include Just One Fix, Everyday is Halloween and Jesus Built My Hotrod.
While he was on stage in Forth Worth, Texas, United States of America on 23 December 2012, he slumped and died, aged 47.
MC Daleste:
Daniel Pedreira Senna Pellegrine, better known as MC Daleste was a Brazilian singer, songwriter and rapper famous for songs like Garota Nivel A, Em Teu Olhar and Nunca Vendeu Maconha.
On 7 July 2013, he was shot dead while he was performing on stage in Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Leslie Harvey:
Back in the 1960s and 1970s, Leslie Cameron Harvey was a well-known guitarist who performed for various Scottish bands, including Stone the Crows.
He died on 3 May 1973 after he was electrocuted on stage, as he grabbed a microphone.
Nick Menza:
Nicholas Menza, better known as Nick Menza was an American musician who used to be a drummer for the band known as Megadeth in the ‘80s and ‘90s. His songs include Symphony of Destruction, Tornado of Souls and In My Darkest Hour.
He slumped during a stage performance in Studio City, California, United States of America. He was rushed to hospital but unfortunately he didn’t survive. He was 51 years old at the time of his death.
Sib Hashian:
John Thomas “Sib” Hashian was a musician who used to be a drummer for the rock band Boston.
On 18 March 2017, he slumped and died while performing on stage.
Colonel Bruce Hampton:
During a concert to mark his birthday on 1 May 2017, Colonel Bruce Hampton slumped and died.
Tiny Tim:
On 30 November 1996, Tiny Tim was on stage performing for the Women’s Club of Minneapolis when he collapsed and passed away hours later at the age of 64.
Richard Versalle:
In January 1996, Richard Versalle met his death after he fell off a ladder in the middle of a stage performance.
Irma Bule:
Indonesian musician Irma Bule, while performing on stage, was bitten by a snake, a king cobra precisely, which she had been using to perform.
Laudir de Oliveira:
On 17 September 2017, Brazilian instrumentalist Laudir de Oliveira died during a stage performance in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Barbara Weldens:
During a stage performance in a church in Gourdon, France, French singer Barbara Weldens was electrocuted- and died as a result.
